SOUTH GLENGARRY/CORNWALL – A tractor-trailer loaded with peat moss tipped on its side in a Boundary Road parking lot Saturday afternoon.

Emergency responders were called to the Petro Pass Truck Stop parking lot off Highway 401 around 12:45 p.m.

O.P.P. say the rig was coming in too fast into the parking lot when it flipped on its side. There were long, black tire marks on the pavement before the tipped rig.

The truck is registered to Ishar Trucking of Surrey, B.C. while it was hauling a Maritime-Ontario box trailer. The driver escaped relatively uninjured. He was treated by paramedics for a cut on his foot.

The big task was getting the truck back on its wheels. A crew of five rigs from Cornwall Towing used a couple of large commercial tow trucks with cabling, a counterbalance truck, as well as five large air bags to right the rig.

Damage to the box trailer appeared to be minor while the cab had extensive damage, including a blown out windshield, broken mirrors and headlights.

The spectacle also drew a crowd in the truck stop, many with their cell phones out taking pictures and shooting video.

O.P.P. say charges are pending against the driver.
