Wind warning for SD&G

Update 1:20 a.m. Saturday: The wind warning has ended.

SD&G – If you’ve already got the patio furniture out with the warmer weather, you may want to fasten it down later today (Friday).

Environment Canada upgraded its special weather statement to a wind warning just before 11 a.m. Friday, saying there is “significant risk” of wind that will cause damage.

It says a line of showers and thunderstorms are expected to pass through the region tonight and the wind will pick up out of the southwest with sustained winds of 40-60 kilometers an hour and gusting to 90 kilometers an hour.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break,” the agency said.

The temperature will drop into the lower single digits tonight but should be back to the low 20s by tomorrow (Saturday).
