Another union rally before Cornwall council meeting

CORNWALL – City workers with the Canadian Union of Public Employees are planning another rally before tonight’s (Monday) city council meeting.

The demonstration is happening at 6 p.m. – an hour before the council meeting.

Meanwhile, inside city hall, human resources manager Geoff Clarke will be giving an update to city councillors on the pace and progress of negotiations, behind closed doors.

The CUPE workers are inside and outside city employees, paramedics, Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge workers and librarians have been without a contract. Most of them have been without a contract since September 2016.

Two weeks ago, the four union locals voted overwhelmingly to strike to back contract demands.

While both sides have outstanding issues, a wage freeze was taken off the table, sometime within the last month of bargaining.
