CORNWALL – The public will have a say on the future location of the historic Locomotive #17, currently sitting at the corner of Brookdale Avenue and Ninth Street in Cornwall.
Infrastructure Division Manager Bill de Wit told the budget committee Thursday morning that an electronic survey will be launched “in the very near future.”
The public will be asked where the locomotive should be moved to and any other comments they would like to share, de Wit said.
Based on the survey, council will get a study on moving the locomotive and the “costing associated with that,” de Wit said.
In June 2017, council approved $100,000 to restore the locomotive from the Cornwall Street Railway Light & Power Company Ltd. – what is known today as Cornwall Electric. But that didn’t include relocation costs.
A good chunk of that $100,000 was used to hire a consultant to conduct a detailed condition assessment and develop tender specifications.
The engine was designated as an artifact of cultural, heritage value or interest in 2006 but little has done to keep it in good order since that time.
