Nuisance flooding possible before flash freeze: SNCA

FINCH – With all the rain over the past day, one of the region’s conservation authorities is advising people to be aware of possible flooding.

The South Nation Conservation Authority issued a water safety statement late Friday morning.

Rain gauges monitored by the authority show 10-20 millimeters of rain has fallen since Thursday.

“As temperatures are forecasted to fall rapidly, ponding water, slush and falling precipitation will freeze. Due to freezing this afternoon, severe flooding is not a concern at this time; however, nuisance flooding in low-lying areas may be observed,” the SNCA said.

People are warned to stay away from riverbanks and parents are urged to explain to their children about the dangers.

The water safety statement in in effect until Monday.
