CORNWALL – The city’s head of public relations is the future face of Cornwall Tourism.

Kevin Lajoie has been appointed the new tourism coordinator, the City of Cornwall announced Wednesday.

He’s been the public information coordinator for the corporation since 2011.

Lajoie is replacing Linda Wilson, who is leaving the position after guiding the department through a transition year after the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of SD&G decided to go their separate ways on the tourism file.

Lajoie will officially take over his “new responsibilities” next month.

Economic Development Division Manager Bob Peters told Cornwall Newswatch they plan to find a replacement for the public information coordinator position. A job posting is expected by the end of the week, Peters said.

The proposed tourism budget for 2018 is $180,382 – $1,206 (0.67 per cent) more than this year. The department plans to spend $94,333 next year for salaries and benefits for the coordinator position and two summer students.
