BAINSVILLE – Two men from Quebec were unsuccessful in outrunning the cops last week in a tobacco seizure.
Members of the Cornwall Regional Task Force say they came across people moving bags from a boat into a van along the shoreline in South Glengarry last week (Monday, Nov. 20).
When officers moved in, two men tried to run away but they were caught.
A 31-year-old and 38-year-old – both from Valleyfield, Que. – are charged with possession of unstamped tobacco under the Excise Act. They are also facing charges under the Tobacco Tax Act.
Officers seized 65 bags of tobacco, which weighed 1,153 kilograms (2,542 pounds).
