CORNWALL – Sentencing for a retired Glengarry priest has been delayed until next month.

Denis Vaillancourt of Lasalle, Que. was to be sentenced today (Friday) in a Cornwall court after being found guilty of a single count of sexual assault.

In early September, Vaillancourt was found guilty of sexually assaulting a young man in his early 20s during a visit to the victim’s family cottage in South Glengarry in September 2015.

His lawyer, Don Johnson, told Cornwall Newswatch today the court was still waiting for a pre-sentence report (PSR) so the matter was adjourned until Dec. 15.

Vaillancourt, who is in his 70s, was a priest with the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall for just over 40 years.
