CORNWALL – A 34-year-old man from Barrie has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, accused of having sex while knowing he was HIV-positive.

Cornwall police say the accused engaged in sexual activity about five-and-a-half weeks ago (Aug. 13, 2017) with an acquaintance while knowing he was infected with the virus “and not disclosing it as directed by provincial health care.”

Staff Sgt. Brian Snyder told Cornwall Newswatch the victim is male but could not say what the “medical condition of the male victim” was at this point.

The accused was arrested Wednesday (Sept. 20) and charged with aggravated sexual assault.

He was held for a bail hearing in a Cornwall court.

His name was not released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
