Former Glengarry priest guilty of sexual assault

CORNWALL – A former priest will be sentenced in November after being found guilty this week of sexually assaulting a man in his 20s.

Denis Vaillancourt of Lasalle, Que., a former pastor of an Alexandria church, was found guilty on a single count of sexual assault.

The judge found there was proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Vaillancourt had violated the man during a visit to the victim’s family cottage in South Glengarry in 2015.

Evidence had been presented during a three day trial in June.

Vaillancourt, who is in his 70s, was a priest with the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall.

A sentencing date has been set for Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 in Cornwall.
