LONG SAULT – A section of the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 are closed, west of Cornwall, after an overnight crash and fire.

The collision between three tractor trailers claimed the life of one driver.

SD&G O.P.P. say an eastbound rig collided with a second truck in the eastbound lanes around 11:27 p.m. Thursday. The second truck burst into flames after it hit a third tractor-trailer.

The driver in the truck that caught fire died at the scene.

The other two drivers escaped uninjured.

The name of the victim is not being released until relatives are notified.

South Stormont firefighters from two stations spent over two hours battling the flames.

The eastbound lanes between Brookdale Avenue in Cornwall and Dickinson Drive in Ingleside are closed and detours are in place.

O.P.P. said at 8:30 a.m. Friday that, due to damage to the road from the fire, the section of eastbound highway is expected to be closed for approximately eight more hours.
