EASTERN ONTARIO – Provincial police officers handed out nearly 1,000 tickets to offending motorists on Sunday – mostly for speeding.
There were a total of 990 speeding tickets on Sunday on O.P.P. patrolled roads.
Officers were also focusing on Ontario’s “move over” law this weekend, where motorists are supposed to move into the next lane if an emergency vehicle is stopped at the side of the road with its lights flashing.
In this case, 47 people were fined for not abiding the law.
There was also 12 impaired driving charges and 24 stunt driving offences as part of the weekend blitz.
There was at least one traffic-related death in Eastern Ontario on the weekend. One driver died today (Monday) in a two vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Silver Lake Provincial Park.
The entire rundown of long weekend tickets is expected Thursday.
