CORNWALL – A large mural showcasing the Akwesasne culture has been unveiled at the OPG Visitor Center.

The work in the auditorium of the Second Street West building is called “Kaniatares”, which means Long River, and depicts live in the village along the St. Lawrence River in the 1700s.

The painting took Akwesasne artist John B. Thomas six weeks to complete and covers three canvasses. It’s 6.4 meters (21 feet) long.

The mural was commissioned by Ontario Power Generation and the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.
