CORNWALL – The Royal Canadian Air Cadets have received a welcome surprise during their annual awards and promotions night.

Wendy MacDonald, whose uncle was a World War Two bandsman, presented a cheque to the 325 Cornwall Kiwanis air cadet military band for $1,500 on June 14.

It was part of the proceeds from Lawrence “Hinchliffe” Tanner’s book “A Funny Thing Happened at the War”. The book recounts Tanner’s travels through the United Kingdom, Italy and Belgium, performing for front-line troops.

MacDonald, who had self-funded the publication with a goal of raising $6,000 from book sales, felt it was “very fitting as (she) helps to share in the passion (her) uncle had.”

The money will be shared between military bands in Cornwall, Ottawa and Trenton.

Copies of the book are available through MacDonald at 613-362-4003 or vmacdonald6@cogeco.ca
