CORNWALL/SOUTH STORMONT – A motorcycle rider has been injured after a collision with a cube van on Cornwall Centre Road.

It happened in the area of the 1400 block of Cornwall Centre Road, half way between Power Dam Drive and the Highway 401 overpass, around 11:45 a.m.

It appears a cube van was attempting to turn into a private driveway when it entered into the path of the eastbound large cruiser-style bike.

With a large single tire skid mark in the eastbound lane, it appeared the biker had been braking hard to avoid the crash. The bike was wedged under the chassis of the van.

Cornwall police Sgt. Dave MacLean told Cornwall Newswatch the male motorcycle rider was conscious when taken to hospital by Cornwall-SDG Paramedic Services in an ambulance.

A South Stormont firefighter, who happened to be in the area, was the first on scene and was able to help the injured biker, MacLean said.

The exact condition of the biker is not known.

A section of Cornwall Centre Road between Power Dam Drive and Brookdale Avenue is expected to be closed for a couple of hours (until approximately 2 p.m.).

Const. Matt Dupuis of the Cornwall Community Police Service traffic division was expected on scene to conduct an investigation.
