NORTH GLENGARRY – A Cornwall man is accused of fleeing SD&G O.P.P. in a pursuit that stretched across Glengarry County.
Officers tried to stop a vehicle on County Road 20 in North Glengarry late Saturday night (May 27) when the vehicle failed to stop.
SD&G O.P.P. Const. Joel Doiron told Cornwall Newswatch the initial pursuit was called off in the interest of public safety and other officers in the area were given a heads up about the vehicle.
The vehicle was later spotted and intercepted on Street Road in South Glengarry – roughly 20 kilometers away from the initial attempted stop.
The driver fled the scene but was taken down by an O.P.P. police dog.
SD&G O.P.P. further allege the accused fought officers during his arrest.
Joshua Tilley, 24, of Cornwall is charged with assaulting a police officer, flight while pursued by a police officer, dangerous driving, possession of marijuana and three counts of failing to comply with court ordered conditions.
A female passenger, 23-year-old Jessica Tiessen of Cornwall, was also charged with obstructing police.
Doiron said the passenger is accused of “not coming forth with information…being evasive in the whole operation.” He said the woman was left behind in the car when the driver took off.
Tilley was held for a bail hearing in a Cornwall court while Tiessen was released with a promise to appear in court in Alexandria on July 12, 2017.
