IROQUOIS – Area residents will start to see construction in about a month on a new roundabout at County Road 1 and County Road 2.

SD&G county council approved the $1.39 million contract for Willis Kerr Contracting Ltd. of Kemptville, Ont. during today’s (Monday) meeting.

The roundabout was recommended after SD&G O.P.P. pointed out a high frequency of accidents at the location, a county report states.

Willis Kerr was the lowest of four bidders for the contract, which still came in over budget. The higher bidders were from Cornwall and Kingston.

County Engineer Ben de Haan said the whole job, which includes improvements on County Road 1, from County Road 2 to the Iroquois Locks, will come in about $483,422 over budget.

The overrun will be covered by an anticipated surplus of approximately $1.2 million for paving county roads.
