United Counties looking at cyber insurance

SD&G – With dozens of countries, including Canada, hit by a cyber attack on Friday, a county council discussion on cyber insurance next week will be very timely.

United Counties councillors are scheduled to hear from Carolyn Corkery of Halpenny Insurance about cyber insurance on Monday morning.

Later, council will vote on a cyber insurance quotation.

Exact details of the quotation and the presentation won’t be shared publicly until Monday morning.

On Friday, a huge cyber extortion attack held computer data at ransom at hospitals, telecommunications firms and other businesses in more than 60 countries worldwide.

The piece of software, spread by employees clicking on email attachments, went quickly through computer systems and locked them up, demanding money for the data to be released.

Monday’s council meeting starts at 9 a.m.
