BONVILLE – The victim of Wednesday’s head-on crash on Highway 138 was involved in a similar crash in North Stormont the month before, Cornwall Newswatch has learned.

A 2010 Toyota car, driven by 27-year-old Azizullah Assadzada of Ottawa, crossed the center line and collided with a transport truck around 6 a.m. Wednesday near Amell and Renald George Road.

Assadzada died at the scene. The truck driver from Chelsea, Que. was not physically injured.

SD&G O.P.P. Const. Joel Doiron confirmed the car driver from Ottawa is the same man who was seriously injured in a head-on crash near Moose Creek on April 19.

In that case, a car crossed the center line and collided with a tractor-trailer on a section of the highway between County Road 43 and County Road 15 around 11:30 a.m.

At the time, the man’s name was not released because it was an open investigation with the possibility of charges being laid, Const. Doiron explained. The O.P.P. policy is not to release names until charges have been filed.

In this latest crash, south of Monkland, an O.P.P. Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team is still working on the case, which Doiron described as “pretty fresh.”
