MORRISBURG – South Dundas councillors will review a report tonight (Tuesday) on whether they should sell a bunch of municipal properties, including a number of municipal parks.
The process, called a “municipal property review,” is in its early stages as council will decide whether to sell or develop the properties that have been identified by staff.
The list has 47 locations identified in Williamsburg, Morrisburg, Matilda and Iroquois. It’s a mix of vacant land, pathways, old municipal works buildings – and parks.
Possibly the most controversial of the staff recommendations is to sell all or portions of some municipal parks.
Those include Steward Drive Park in Morrisburg and portions of Loyalist Park on County Road 4, Duncan Park in Mariatown and Coyle Drive Park in Morrisburg.
The possible sale of Duncan and Loyalist Parks has already drawn a 190 signature petition from noted local lawyer Douglas Grenkie.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the South Dundas Municipal Center in Morrisburg.
