CORNWALL – As the city’s hospital wraps up organ donor month, statistics released by the hospital show more people locally are waiting for a life-saving transplant.
According to the Cornwall Community Hospital, there are nine people in Cornwall waiting for a transplant compared to five at this time last year (2016).
CCH has been part of the organ donation network in Ontario since 2013.
The registration rate in the Cornwall area is at 32 per cent, slightly higher than the province average of 31 per cent (the Ontario average was 29 per cent in 2016).
The Cornwall hospital has had 44 organ and tissue donations in the last four years.
April was BeADonor Month, where CCH held a registration drive and a day where everyone wore green.
