CORNWALL — As the weather warms up so is the prevalence of contraband activities, the RCMP said Monday.

The Cornwall Regional Task Force seized 33 bags of tobacco at a cottage on Hamilton Island on March 3 while officers were patrolling in the area.

However, authorities made no arrests.

The tobacco weighed 595 kilograms (1,312 pounds).

“With the warming weather approaching, police will likely see an increase in illicit activities occurring on our waterways,” said Staff Sergeant Sylvain Leroux, head of the CRTF.

If you see something fishy, the CRTF suggested it’s best to call the police.
