SOUTH STORMONT – Two overpasses on Highway 401 in the township will be replaced over the next two years.

Work on the Avonmore Road overpass near Long Sault will begin in April and the Wales Drive bridge near Ingleside will be replaced starting in 2018, the government announced Friday.

The contract has been awarded to Cruickshank Construction Ltd. of Kingston for $6.9 million.

Both projects are scheduled to be done by the fall of 2018.

Much like the replacement of the Aultsville Road and Brinston Road overpasses in 2016, the demolitions will require two 12-hour overnight closures of Highway 401.

The government estimates 1,365 vehicles use the Wales Drive overpass daily, while 1,491 cross the Avonmore Road overpass.
