Deal reached with French Catholic school support workers

L’ORIGNAL, Ont. – The union representing 250 support workers at French Catholic schools in Eastern Ontario says it’s reached a tentative deal.

Workers with CUPE Local 4155 – janitors, IT technicians and other support staff – have been off the job for nearly a week, walking the picket lines since Feb. 7 to back contract demands.

Details of the agreement between the French Catholic district school board and the union are being kept confidential until both sides ratify the agreement.

According to other media reports, a CUPE spokesman had said the union was concerned over staff cuts and how split shifts would affect student health and safety.

Ratification by the union was expected to happen today (Feb. 13).

In Cornwall, workers at La Citadelle high school were on the picket line Friday.
