More details on train-car collision east of Cornwall

CORNWALL – Provincial police released more details Monday on a collision between a car and a Via Rail train.

The crash happened Friday around 5 p.m. near the Cornwall-South Glengarry municipal boundary as Train 67 was heading from Montreal to Toronto.

SD&G O.P.P. say the collision happened at a railway crossing that’s part of a private driveway off Tyotown Road in South Glengarry.

Police say the vehicle got stuck on the tracks while trying to cross but the driver was able to get out of the vehicle and safely away before the train hit it.

The accident also forced the crossing at Boundary Road to be closed for some time.

Passengers on the Via Rail train had to be transferred to other modes of transportation to get to their destination.

There were no injuries, police said.
