SD&G – The holiday season wasn’t so festive for local O.P.P., as officers saw a spike in cases of drunk driving.
Results from the festive RIDE campaign show 11 people were charged with impaired driving, compared to five during the 2015-2016 campaign and nine during the 2014-2015 season.
Officers had also completed more checks this year – 213 checks compared to 155 the year prior during the seven week campaign from late November to early January.
Four drivers had their licences suspended after blowing in the “warn range.”
“With the many alternatives available in this day and age, it is alarming and unacceptable that drivers would take such potentially devastating risks,” said Insp. Mike Mulhearn, SD&G O.P.P. Detachment Commander.
