CORNWALL – A section of Brookdale Avenue, from Water to Seventh Street, didn’t open as planned on Friday.

That was due to a delay in an order of street light poles from the manufacturer, the city said in a media statement.

The city and police felt that due to longer periods of darkness, more holiday traffic and the new street configuration, it was safer to leave the street closed.

“We are disappointed with the situation and regret that the poles are delayed. Although frustrating, it is in the interest of public safety to wait a few additional days to reopen Brookdale Avenue,” the statement read in part.

The city is hoping Brookdale will be open later next week.
