CORNWALL – If you hear the sound of gunshots around the old East Front Public School tomorrow (Tuesday) there’s no need to worry.

The Cornwall police Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the O.P.P. Tactical Response Unit (TRU) are carrying out a live training exercise between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During the training around 1810 Montreal Road, the sound of gunfire may be heard, city police said.

The mock training exercise is meant to hone the skills of officers so they can safely and effectively contain a real situation.

There is no live ammunition being used and the public’s safety is not at risk, the CCPS added.

Students from the local college police foundations course and the SD&G Highlanders are also taking part.
