LONG SAULT – A South Stormont man has been arrested and charged in connection to several acts of vandalism and arson at a local school.

SD&G O.P.P. had been probing several reports of broken windows, as well as graffiti in one case, between September and October at Longue Sault Public School.

On Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, the Bethune Avenue elementary school was set on fire causing some damage.

Police arrested a suspect yesterday (Oct. 25) after searching a home on Saunders Avenue in Long Sault – a few blocks from the vandalized school.

Some marijuana was also seized by officers at the scene.

William “Liam” McDonald, 22, of South Stormont is facing five counts of mischief, break and enter, arson and possession of a controlled substance.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing in Cornwall.
