Hydro outage hits Brookdale business district

CORNWALL – Some city businesses had to close their doors after a power outage in the area on Brookdale Avenue and Ninth Street Friday night.

The power went out to roughly 200 customers just after 6 p.m.

While the number of customers is low, many of them were commercial businesses like Kelsey’s, Walmart and Harvey’s – some of which had to close their doors for the night.

Cornwall Electric Regional Manager Michael O’Reilly told Cornwall Newswatch they found a breaker had been tripped on a main feeder line.

O’Reilly said they had crews check the lines but couldn’t find the cause – which may have been a number of things like a tree branch that clipped a line or wildlife that made contact with the wire.

Crews closed the breaker and power was restored around 7:30 p.m.
