Two UCDSB trustees will attempt to stop school closure plan

BROCKVILLE – Two public school board trustees will try tonight (Wednesday) to stop the process, which could see up to 29 schools close across Eastern Ontario.

Upper Canada District School Board trustees John McAllister and Wendy MacPherson will be asking the board to rescind the original motion passed at its Sept. 28, 2016 meeting.

That motion started the wheels turning for an accommodation review and to accept the draft recommendations, which could see a mass closure of schools.

The proposal would see 16 closed by the end of this school year and a further 13 under the right conditions.

The plan has inflamed many in the community and resulted in an uprising in the form of parents’ groups trying to save their individual schools.

The board meeting in Brockville, Ont. starts at 6:30 p.m.
