CORNWALL – Motorists will have to wait another week before they can use the intersection at Brookdale Avenue and Second Street West.

The city announced Friday afternoon it had been told by the Federal Bridge Corporation and contractor Bray Construction that the intersection will likely not open until Friday, Oct. 14, 2016.

It had been originally scheduled to open today (Oct. 7).

Infrastructure General Manager John St. Marseille explained the $7 million reconstruction project of Brookdale has hit a few snags, mainly due to industrial-era waterworks which “has slowed progress somewhat.”

The closure of the intersection has pushed roughly 4,000 vehicles a day, mostly to Cumberland Street.

Meanwhile, Brookdale Avenue, from Water to Seventh, is supposed to open at the end of November – a month ahead of schedule.
