LONG SAULT – A truck driver is dead after a Wednesday night collision on Highway 401 near Long Sault.

SD&G O.P.P. said the rig, which was heading west, left the freeway and overturned in the median, between Moulinette Road and Dickinson Drive just before 9 p.m.

Fifty-nine-year-old Iqbal Zafar from Montreal, Que., the only person in the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SD&G O.P.P. Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are continuing their probe into what caused the crash.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for much of Wednesday night, forcing traffic to County Road 2.

The highway has since reopened as of 8 a.m. Thursday.
