CASSELMAN – A man from Casselman is facing an animal cruelty charge after a cat had to be put down.

SPCA investigators received a complaint July 21, 2016 about a cat that had been shot in the head in the community, 50 kilometers northwest of Cornwall.

After going door-to-door in an attempt to find the cat, it was later found and euthanized by a vet due to the severity of the injuries.

A 62-year-old resident has been charged with causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal.

The man, whose name was not released, will appear in a L’Orignal, Ont. court Wednesday (Aug. 31).
