CORNWALL – The city’s police chief will be receiving an honourary diploma from St. Lawrence College Friday.

Dan Parkinson will be part of the Cornwall Convocation ceremony as he addresses the graduating class at 5 p.m.

There are three ceremonies on Friday – 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The college says the chief will add the honorary diploma to many other honours including the 2015 Paul Harris Fellow from the Cornwall Rotary Clubs, the 2013 Officer of the Order Merit, the 2013 Police Exemplary Medal and the 2012 President’s Award of Merit from the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

Parkinson has not only devoted his life to policing but to serving in the community, including his work with the Cornwall hospital, Baldwin House and the Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall and SD&G.

“I’m humbled to have been nominated, and to receive this prestigious honour,” he said. “I am profoundly aware that this is the highest form of recognition that the college can bestow, and it is a significant landmark in my personal and professional life.”
