SOUTH DUNDAS – A municipal lease for the TR Leger school in the township has been extended a year despite the alternative and adult learning school’s uncertain future.

The Upper Canada District School Board is looking at closing up to three campuses in the region as it looks to close a $4.7 million funding gap.

South Dundas council approved the one year extension Tuesday night for the school at 4296 County Road 31 (Bank Street) in Williamsburg.

The agreement will now expire in August 2017.

South Dundas is being paid $3,617 a month by the UCDSB for the former municipal office location and that will increase 1.7 per cent to $3,678 a month.

The school board is considering the closure of three of the 14 TR Leger campuses and rolling those students into neighbouring schools – a move that could save the board nearly $300,000.

The funding gap is due to less revenue from the province because of a drop in enrollment.
