GLEN WALTER – Fire investigators are not able to determine what caused a massive fire two weeks ago, which destroyed a Glen Walter home.
The Brunet family home at 6798 Page Drive (on the southwest corner of Lana Drive and Page Drive) was leveled Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the lunch time blaze.
“The fire is going to be deemed undetermined at this time,” Acting Fire Chief Dave Robertson told Cornwall Newswatch. “The file will be closed. It has been investigated and it will left undetermined at this time.”
As for a point of origin, Robertson said it was “somewhere in the west portion of the main home…it was not in the garage.”
With a brisk west wind that day, the fire quickly spread, enveloping the building and the nearby garage, due to a “conjoined porch. It started in that area and went right through the home.”
“(With) the extent of the damage, there really wasn’t much left there to investigate,” the chief said. “The other thing we could tell was from eyewitness and from photographs and from examining the site, we can tell where it originated but we can’t come conclusively to a cause,” he added.
There were no injuries in the fire, after Danny Brunet and his son, Denis, were able to escape after discovering the fire.
As of Thursday afternoon, a GoFundMe page to help the Brunet family get back on their feet had raised nearly $16,000 of its $18,000 goal.
