CORNWALL – While talking about sharing water and an airport with South Glengarry, a city councillor believes a bigger discussion should start with sharing services with SD&G.

“The time for dialogue is now,” Coun. Denis Carr as he presented his new business motion.

He’s asking for a wide-reaching city report on the idea of sharing more services with the United Counties.

“Let’s put everything on the table,” Carr said. “I think there’s opportunity for them and an opportunity for us,” the Joint Services Liaison Committee chairman said.

But Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy, while agreeing somewhat with Carr, cautioned about the complexities of sharing services with a single-tier and an upper-tier municipality.

O’Shaughnessy suggested a meeting will come which will allow both sides to “kicking around ideas.”

Staff will start on a comprehensive report though a date for completion has not been established.
