Winchester Parmalat picks up four world cheese awards

MADISON, Wis. – Parmalat’s Winchester plant has picked up the top prize for young-aged cheddar at the 2016 World Championship Cheese Contest.

Parmalat’s Balderson Cheddar Team took best of class for mild cheddar, aged 0-3 months.

The final score from the judges was 99.55 out of 100, with cheese producers from New Mexico and Idaho rounding out the top three.

The Balderson team also took second place for its sharp cheddar, aged six months to one year.

The Winchester Cheddar Team took best of class for medium cheddar, aged 3-6 months, with a score of 99.45.

In the marbled curd category, the Parmalat Cheddar Team won third place.

The World Championship Cheese Contest started in 1917 by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association and judges over 2,000 entries from around the world in over 100 categories.

The contest was held March 7-9, 2016.
