Student brings gun to Alexandria school

ALEXANDRIA – Provincial police say they were able to diffuse a potentially dangerous situation after taking a gun from a student.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 23) at Elda-Rouleau elementary Catholic school in Alexandria.

Police say they intercepted the 13-year-old boy and seized the firearm without incident at the school at 115 Sandfield Avenue South.

Charges are pending.

In a statement, the French Catholic School Board of Eastern Ontario said the situation was quickly brought under control and safety of students is their priority.

Counselling is being made available to students at the school.
