Akwesasne hockey tourney raises money for elderly homes

AKWESASNE – The fourth annual Law Enforcement Benefit Hockey Tournament has raised thousands for two local homes for the elderly.

The tournament was held Jan. 22 and featured teams from Cornwall police, SD&G O.P.P., U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Ottawa police, Cornwall Fire Department, and the host Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and Akwesasne Police Association.

The event raised $6,855.00.

It will be split 50-50 between the Akwesasne home for the aged (Tsiionkwanonhso:te Adult Care) and the Iakhihsohtha Home for the Elderly (Iakhihsohtha Recreation and Leisure Department).

Organizer Ranatiiostha Swamp said the tournament was helped with continued support from 64 local businesses and sponsors – many from Cornwall.
