CORNWALL – The Nativity Co-Cathedral is temporarily closed after structural problems were discovered.

Chancellor Kimberly Walsh said the problems were found in the choir loft of the church at 220 Montreal Road.

“The parish has granted a contract to a professional engineering consulting firm to investigate the situation fully and recommend remedial action. They will begin their assessment the first week of January,” the diocese said in a news release Monday.

Walsh said the church will reopen once the required repairs are made.

In the meantime, the Christmas and New Year’s Masses will be the following:

  • Christmas Eve Mass – St-Felix-de-Valois Church 7:30 p.m. Bishop Marcel Damphousse presiding.
  • Christmas Day Mass – St-Felix-de-Valois Church 10:30 a.m. (for three French east end parishes).
  • New Year’s Eve Mass – St-Felix-de-Valois Church 5 p.m. Bishop Marcel Damphousse presiding.
  • New Year’s Day Mass – Ste-Croix Church 10:30 a.m. (for three French east end parishes).
