CORNWALL – The city is proposing two roundabouts on McConnell Avenue and Sydney Street as it reconfigures a city street and expands its municipal works yard.

An environmental assessment is underway by Aecon Engineering to connect the two sections of Lemay Street. The one section is east of Thirteenth Street. The other is west of McConnell Avenue.

The $3.5 million road reconstruction project would include adding traffic roundabouts where Lemay intersects Sydney Street and McConnell Avenue.

There would also be sidewalks and bike lanes on Lemay.

The city would also close off Ontario Street at Twelfth Street, to expand the existing footprint of the public works building, making a municipal works yard north of Twelfth.

The municipal works yard redevelopment is pegged at $32 million.

A public open house was held Oct. 21 but you can still give public feedback on the plan by going here.

You have until Dec. 11 to make a comment.

The issue of traffic roundabouts has been a highly charged issue this year in SD&G, with the United Counties proceeding with a roundabout in Long Sault at Moulinette Road and County Road 2.

Construction on that roundabout should happen sometime next year.
