CORNWALL – Hundreds of young and the young at heart lined Second Street Saturday afternoon to see the Cornwall Santa Claus Parade.
With marching bands and colourful characters, onlookers were swept into the 44th edition of the parade focusing on “Christmas Dreams.”
Those participating included a number of school groups and local businesses and organizations as the procession made its way across Second Street and finished at the foot of Augustus Street.
And the “pièce de résistance” in white and red was also there – Santa Claus! The jolly old elf waved to children along the route before getting ready to deliver presents a little over a month from now.
The weather turned out to be relatively comfortable for the parade with only a mild breeze.
For watchers near Glengarry Boulevard at the Eastcourt Mall, it lasted about 70 minutes.
The parade wasn’t the only thing getting people in the Christmas spirit, despite the lack of snow.
Scores of children showed up at the civic complex in the morning for Breakfast with Santa and Montreal Road was closed for a street hockey challenge in the afternoon, prior to the parade.
