SD&G – For the second month in a row, the jobless figure in Eastern Ontario has fallen.
The unemployment rate for the region from Brockville to Ottawa and east to Quebec for October fell 0.4 per cent of 6.5 per cent.
It was 6.9 per cent in September and 7.3 per cent in August.
In Cornwall, the unadjusted rate also fell to 9.6 per cent in October from 11.9 per cent in September.
The numbers suggest a combination of more people getting back into the workforce as well as nearly 800 people already in the available workforce finding jobs.
Canada added 44,600 net jobs – possibly due to temporary federal election jobs – as the unemployment rate fell 0.1 per cent to seven per cent.
Unemployment in Ontario also dropped 0.1 per cent to 6.8 per cent as the province added 29,200 jobs.
