SD&G – With the SD&G United Way campaign closing in on 22 per cent of its goal this year, organizers are gearing up for a ritzy event which will boost its total.
The Holiday Wine & Gourmet Tastings is a little more than two weeks away (Nov. 21) and United Way Executive Director Lori Greer couldn’t be happier.
“It’s coming together very well. Tickets are selling and people are talking about it already so we’re looking forward to another fabulous evening,” Greer told Cornwall Newswatch.
The three hour event features wine and different stations featuring different types of food that people can try, Greer explained. “Some really delicious items, appetizer-type things, different meat and seafood stations to desserts.”
Around 500 people are expected for the event at Nav Center in Cornwall.
Tickets are $90, available at Scotiabank on Brookdale Avenue.
As for the campaign, “the donations are starting to come in and we’re…almost at 22 per cent (of the $710,000 goal) so it goes up a little bit each day. We have businesses that are on board with payroll deduction, we have people that donate individually and we have events that we’re running from the office as well,” Greer said.
“It’s such a huge community endeavor, we’re so grateful.”
In addition, every donation over $25 includes an entry into a dream vacation draw for a $3,000 Travel Quest travel voucher, sponsored by Your Credit Union.
Other events coming up include a curling bonspiel on Nov. 28 in Morrisburg as well as an ongoing Wednesday night Nativity Bowl bowling league that benefits United Way. “There’s still room. People can register to come and bowl. They don’t have to have a team. They could come as an individual and we will find a team for them,” Greer said.
RBC is also hosting a trade show at the Eastcourt Mall on Nov. 28 which will also benefit UW.
More information on donating and the event are on the United Way website.
