CORNWALL – A new elementary school at the corner of Nick Kaneb Drive and Marleau Avenue will have a name by the end of the year.

But school board officials have over a dozen to choose from after a public meeting Thursday night at St. Lawrence high school.

A naming committee is made of various people including former MPP and former teacher Jim Brownell.

They came up with 19 names – some touching on the history of the amalgamated schools – East Front and Gladstone – while others highlighted the geographic location.

The favourites appeared to be ‘Bridgewood’ and ‘Sir John Johnson’ – the founder of Cornwall.

A recommendation is expected to go to the school board in December.

The committee will meeting privately one more time to narrow down the choices.

You are also invited to submit a name via email to kelty.grant@ucdsb.on.ca – the future school’s principal.

The school, which will have nearly 600 students, is slated to open in September 2016.
