FINCH – Fire has destroyed a barn east of Finch.

SD&G O.P.P. and North Stormont firefighters were called late Wednesday afternoon to the barn on County Road 43, east of the village.

North Stormont Fire Chief Joe Bakker told Cornwall Newswatch the fire was a long, drawn-out battle because of the old, tinder-dry building.

Bakker said there was no livestock in the barn. “There wasn’t much in it for storage. The owner said he had very little inside,” the chief said.

“We think there was an electrical short in the barn. There was only one power cable going to it so that’s all we can attribute it to. It was an old structure. It went up pretty quickly,” Bakker said.

There were no injuries.

SD&G O.P.P. were on the scene for traffic control on County Road 43.
