Patients at CCH will take a number in ER

CORNWALL – At the hospital’s emergency department? Take a number.

The Cornwall Community Hospital has instituted a new electronic numbering system to queue patients to be seen by a doctor.

People arriving at the McConnell Avenue site will use a touch-screen system to answer some preliminary questions and then they will be placed in a “virtual line” to see the triage nurse.

The hospital says people will be called through a loudspeaker and a number on a television screen in the waiting room will be displayed.

It’s hoped the system will help with the physical and visual stress of seeing or standing in a lineup at triage.

According to CCH, there were roughly 60,000 visits to the ER last year.
