CORNWALL – City council will hold a special meeting Monday where its expected to award a $242,000 contract to replace the nurse call system at Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge.

The long term care home on Montreal Road has been under an order by the Ministry of Health for problems with the system with a deadline of Nov. 30 to fix it.

The existing system is 21 years old, a city report states.

In April, the MOH had cited 12 violations of laws surrounding long term care security and operations at the lodge.

Under a special points scoring system, an evaluation committee has chosen i3s of Ottawa as the best bid meeting specifications at $242,467.69 for the call system.

There was only one other bid from a Winnipeg firm for over $300,000.

A city report shows the lodge had only budgeted $106,500 for the project and the balance will come out of the city’s working reserves, with a plan to replace the money over two years.
